Nikon D3100 Outdoor Footage & Focus Test
Wednesday, January 12th, 2011
So i decided to go out and shoot some natural light video, so whats better to test that AF-F Autofocus than my daughter running around? In my opinion the AF-F Auto focus is terrible, but you have to remember that this is a Digital Camera not a Camcorder. Although it is great at taking video and has that magic 24FPS, your not going to get great results in moving subjects unless you have mastered Manual Focusing. Follow me on twitter: twitter.com
Fujifilm Finepix S1800 Outdoor pics selection 1 – HD
Tuesday, January 11th, 2011
Some pictures captured on my new S1800 around Birmingham & Cambridge, UK. The pics were uploaded without any editting and I shot them using mainly the SR AUTO setting (Scene recognition) as I am still getting used to its features having just upgraded from a compact point-and-shoot. The music is by Negativity, here is the link www.youtube.com
Samsung CL65 vs Vado HD – Outdoor Comparison
Sunday, January 2nd, 2011
This is an outdoor test of the Samsung CL65 and the Vado HD, 720p @ 30fps “HD” video recording features.. Below the Samsung is focused in Macro mode (that is why the background is blurry), the Vado’s focus is fixed. Vado tends to saturate colors more than the average camera which makes them more lively and vivid, but in some cases a bit too amped. Overall, that is better than some other pocket camcorder’s washed out colors, but it would also be nice to be able to adjust them. The biggest difference in color between these two is the green tone that looks (imo) better in the Vado’s footage, but the Samsung has an adjustable RGB feature – which i did not test here. Check my other video for a comparison in high-contrast light, and Samsung’s color settings, along with more details about the two cameras.

Behind the scenes #5 – Outdoor photoshooting in a harvested field with Nikon Speedlites
Saturday, May 15th, 2010
Strobist photoshoot in a harvested field near Hanover with german politician Dorota Szymanska. I used two SB-800 through an umbrella and one SB-800 on-camera to trigger them with Nikons CLS. Later I changed the SB-800 with PocketWizards because of the harsh sunlight what makes it very difficult to use the CLS and attached a SB-900 with a reflector on the ground. Music courtesy of digitaljuice.com and “El Duo Flamenco” – thank you! To see the pics big please go to simonsenphoto.com If you have questions feel free to ask. Thursday, May 13th, 2010
If you have ever photographed outdoor sports during the day you know its one of the easier things to do. Its easier because there is plenty of light so you don’t have to worry about digital noise or having a faster lens. Are you setting the camera or are you leaving it in auto or that sports mode? Part 1 of this series will take you through the first few steps of getting out of auto and explain how you can set your camera. I will touch on how you can set your ISO as well as explaining aperture priority mode. Stay tuned for Part 2
